On Mission Games is getting ready to gear up for another great year of sport, games, fun and discipleship.
The Uniting Church WA has participated in the games for a number of years as the U-Team, in the Emerging Youth Games (EYG) and State Youth Games (SYG) events.
On Mission Games also hold Kids Games, Sports Plus, Masters Games and Regional Games. A regional games event in the Great Southern, as well as the Emerging Youth Games, are kicking off in April with registrations opening this February. The Great Southern Games, for students in years 7 to 12, will be held in Albany on Saturday 13 April and is open to youth groups in the region. The Emerging Youth Games is for high school students in years 7 to 10 and will be held on Saturday 27 April at Warwick Stadium, Perth.
Joining the U-Team is a great way to connect with young people from Uniting Churches in WA, but also with young members of other denominations. On Mission Games is run by Churches of Christ in WA, and is open to any group who wants to connect with God and other young Christians in the state.
Last year, U-Team came in 4th place in the State Youth Games, held in Bunbury in June for competitors between the ages of 16 and 30. Kenith Png, from Nedlands Uniting Church, was part of the team and said it was a great experience for all involved.
“With a groundbreaking attendance for U-Team at over 60 competitors, we spent the long weekend playing Badminton, Chess, Soccer, Kubb, Netball, Ultimate Frisbee, Basketball and even Xbox, just to name a few of the 38 sports,” he said. “We had an abundance of teams placing top five in numerous events.”
The event is not just about games and competing, however, as it also includes faith-enriching activities.
“It was a great opportunity for the competitors from 19 church teams, aged 16-28, to compete, bond and engage in faith-enriching activities – such as the Saturday night concert and the always insightful sermon,” Kenith said.
“It was an enriching weekend of youth ministry, sore muscles and meaningful connections.”
