Providing community services has faced some new challenges during the COVID-19 outbreak, but UnitingCare West, a Uniting Church WA community service provider, is continuing to support vulnerable people in WA through their programs.
Rev Steve Francis, Moderator of the Uniting Church WA, and Geoff Bice, Social Justice Consultant for the Uniting Church WA, have sent a joint letter to the church encouraging them to write to their Federal Member of Parliament, asking them to act with compassion for some of the most vulnerable people in Australia.

For almost ten years, Messy Church at Bunbury St Augustine Uniting Church has been an all-ages worship connecting families to the message of Jesus. The monthly gathering usually consists of craft, songs, a story, prayers and a shared meal.
This month, however, due to COVID-19, Messy Church in Bunbury looked a little different. Instead of gathering at the church, people ran Messy Church activities in their own homes over the Easter long weekend, connecting as a group via live stream to share in some of the activities together.
This sweet and simple Apple Crumble recipe was sent in by Cheryl Smith from Pinjarra Uniting Church. It was also featured in their church newsletter. Serve this tasty crumble with cream or vanilla ice-cream for added goodness!

3 or 4 green apples
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup plain flour
3/4 cup rolled oats or muesli
60g butter
Preheat oven to 180o degrees.
Peel and core the apples, slice thinly and place apple into a buttered ovenproof dish.
To make the crumble topping, place sugar, flour and the oats or muesli into a mixing bowl.
Chop the butter into small pieces and add to the bowl.
Using your fingers, mix in butter until mixture is crumbly, then sprinkle it over the apples.
Bake for 35 minutes.
