All-age ministry continues at Trinity North

Richard TelferFirst Third’s newest team member may be recognisable to some, as Trinity North Uniting Church welcomed Richard Telfer to their ministry team in November. Richard has previously worked as a First Third specialist for the South Metro region but had to return to Sydney for family reasons. Now back in Perth, Richard is excited to be able to share his knowledge of First Third theology and principles with the Metro North region, specifically with the Trinity North congregation.

Richard says he is looking forward to using his experience in community development to  connect, not just with the ‘first-thirders’, but also with older members of the congregation as they journey together to support and encourage the young people in their church, the schools and the community.

“First Third ministry is not just ministry for people under 30,” he said. “It’s about developing a ministry that encourages young people to be a part of the church in the present. It’s all age ministry.”

Barbara Marshall, chair of the First Third Ministry Action Team at Trinity North Uniting Church, said that it’s too early to know how the ministry will play out, but that the congregation is excited to have Richard on board.

“I’m certainly looking forward to working with Richard and engaging our youth as we go forward into 2014,” she said.

Richard will be joining Rev Sonny Rajamoney and Rev Nich Cole in a team ministry for the congregation, which has three worshiping communities. Nich will arrive in Perth  from New South Wales in January to begin his placement.
