UnitingCare Australia has welcomed today’s announcement by the Australian Government that the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) will be retained.
National director, Lin Hatfield Dodds, says the ACNC plays a vital role in supporting the work of the not-for-profit sector.
“The ACNC works to improve the regulatory environment for our sector by reducing administrative duplication and cutting unnecessary red tape whilst preserving the independence and diversity of the sector,” she said.
“Importantly, the ACNC upholds the core principles of Australia’s NFP sector by respecting the diversity and independence of the sector and in particular its right to advocacy.
“We also value the role of a sector-specific regulator in maintaining the historically high levels of public trust and confidence in our sector.
“Today’s announcement eliminates uncertainty about the future of the ACNC and allows it, working with the sector, to get on with its current agenda of regulatory reform and other improvements,” Lin said.
