MLC welcomes new Principal

The Commissioning of Methodist Ladies’ College’s (MLC) 12th Principal, Dr Marie Perry, took place at the college on Tuesday 6 March. The service was led by Uniting Church WA Acting Moderator, Rev Ken Williams, and MLC Chaplain, Rev Hollis Wilson. Students, staff and special guests were in attendance, and musical items were presented by the College’s Symphony Orchestra and Chorale.

Dr Marie Perry is a highly experienced educator who has taught all grades from Kindergarten to Year 12 and also delivered adult education. This breadth of experience has afforded Marie a keen awareness of the needs of every age group. As a leader, Marie has extensive experience in working with all sectors of a school community, and in the development of strategic partnerships for the mutual benefit of all parties.

Marie’s professional aspiration is to focus on developing young women of character who are confident, capable, resilient and motivated learners who will become empowered, while also empowering others, to flourish—not only at school but also in their lives after they graduate from MLC. This aligns with the MLC motto, Per Ardua ad Alta—through striving to the heights.

Marie’s doctoral thesis focused on privileging student voice in the area of social media. Technology, along with the development of contemporary learning pedagogy, has been a focus area in her career as an educator. She is passionate about preparing learners for their futures in a modern digital context. Marie is impressed with the level of commitment, dedication and care demonstrated by all staff at MLC and she is devoted to working with the wider MLC community in service towards the betterment of each and every girl.

After her appointment last year, Dr Marie Perry said: “It is an honour and a privilege to be the 12th principal of the College. I am deeply committed to ensuring that MLC continues to go from strength to strength and that every student is supported to flourish. I am looking forward to developing strong partnerships with the MLC community.”
