The peace of the Lord be with you. My name is Steve Francis, I’m the moderator of the Uniting Church in Western Australia.

It’s a great privilege for me to bring you an Easter greeting; I just thank God for Easter.

We live in such unstable and turbulent times. Tens of thousands of people have lost their jobs, businesses have gone down, we are socially isolated from each other, our churches are closed for Easter.

But I thank God for Easter; for the death and resurrection of Jesus. Because, the death and resurrection of Jesus brings new hope and new life to our work and a sense of stability about our presence and our future.

One writer describes the Easter weekend as the weekend that changed the world. On Good Friday, Jesus Christ died on a cross to take away our sins; to put right what was wrong with our relationship with God, to bridge the gap that separated us from God and from each other.

And gloriously, on Easter Sunday morning, God rose Jesus from the dead. How amazing.

The resurrection is more than a myth or a metaphor, it’s the turning point of human history.

It means that Jesus is not just a memory; Jesus is present with us now, in us, with us, alongside us, before us, behind us, around us. The risen Christ.

And so my prayer for you and for your family is, even though you can’t go to church, that you will know the joy and the peace and the reality of the risen Christ this Easter.

May god bless you, amen.
